grantmc 59
LBYC boat club is holding an orientation rally in Wellington harbour. This all day event is open to moored yachts, launches and trailer boats. Entry is $20 per boat for non members, otherwise free. What is an Orientation Rally? The orientation rally is NOT a race. The course is based on the sport of orienteering. Each entrant is provided with a unique set of instructions. These include a list of tasks that must be performed during the voyage. Plus some nautical questions. Crews negotiate their individual course within Wellington Harbour based on their interpretation of the instructions, and attempt to complete all tasks and answer the questions. Each boat will undertake a voyage of about 20 miles. Entrants need to visit the LBYC club rooms for their set of instructions between 9:30 and 10:30 on the day. Entrants can start at any time they prefer once they have their instructions. All boats must return to LBYC Clubhouse at Seaview Marina, with their task list and answers, by 5:30pm following which there will be a byo BBQ and prize giving. Please pre-register by email at grantmc@paradise.net.nz. The only things needed are a chart of Wellington harbour and lunch for everyone on the boat, plus your food for the BBQ. SthnJeff 18
Thanks again Grant for organising this brilliant day. My Crew, 3 of whom are new to sailing, all raved about the day and the experience. Great fun, made magical by being escorted by a pod of approx 40 Dolphins between Sommes and Oriental bay for a good 20 minutes. Magical stuff helped by Wellingtons weather gods turning on a beaut day, then topped of with some delicious Whitebait Fritters at the end of the day. SUPERB

SthnJeff 18
Sounds like an intriguing event!!! Really well done, Sort of like The Amazing Race hits Wellington Harbour, with challanges ranging from Anchoring, to completing a measured mile, Man overboard drill, Some poor soul (me in my boats case - the mutinious dogs!) having to swim a lap round the boat, to putting someone ashore and collecting them after a 1km walk, collecting clues after giving a secret phrase to a Barista on shore through to crews having to sing a song over the VHF! and various navigational tasks amongst others. A real fun day that clearly took some organising!
