Question for YNZ,

Since this Centres sole purpose is to coach the Elite sailors with Olympic aspirations! (Which is why Sport NZ give YNZ millions) then how does this fit with YNZ's Olympic qualification plan, that requires sailors to sail offshore (where the best competition/coaching is) in order on qualify NZ a Olympic entry?

Question 2.

Why do YNZ continue to limit New Zealanders and New Zealand sailors, with Olympic aspirations, from competing for a place in the Olympics by reducing the pathways to selection down to only those who can afford to compete overseas and qualify an entry for NZ.

General comment.

Is it the intention of YNZ, by building this centre, that this will juts be a place to coach the elite that qualify NZ,s entry or is this replacing the need to race overseas and qualify.?(conflict of interest)

It appears to me that YNZ NEED sailors to compete overseas In order to qualify entries and get Sport NZ funding. So, why the need for a world class training/coaching facility in NZ?

Wouldn't,t the $8 million + be better spent on talent identification and Olympic trials in order to identify / get more sailors qualifying entries overseas. After all the European fleets/regattas will be a far better learning centre than Takapunas proposed monument to "empire building"

final comment.

Because of the aforementioned... The Elite sailing centre, proposed for Takapuna, is a waste of money and in conflict with the elite /Olympic sailing programme YNZ currently runs. As such this building is just "YNZ management building a large structure in order to justify more funding. Funding that should Be spent on sailors around NZ.

YNZ does not need to get involved. It is not their goal or stated aims. It is not their job.

YNZ is for grass route NZ domicile sailors and for better organised local clubs with help for their training retraining and recruitment membership drives.

Correct. This centre is a irresponsible waste of money and effort.

Who overseas YNZ expenditure? The Govt? Or SportNZ?... nobody I suspect.

All they are doing is building a empire to justify more income to support it and them!

God! Soon they will be bigger than Vodaphone!... but with no clubs and members!

I'm going to lock all these various YNZ threads till IT gets back from Fiji or Noumea or wherever he is sailing from. No one has broken the rules , it's just getting really noisy. He can decide what he wants to do next in a few days . No complaints.

Two figures sat side by side, staring at the Sea. One said to the other, “You know that one day we will die.” And the other friend replied, “But all of the other days WE WILL LIVE!”
