Mercury Diesel 2.8L and 4.2L Sterndrive Marine Engines

The Hazard

The flexible fuel return hose which runs from the fuel distribution block to the fuel injection pump may crack at the end of the hose, which could allow a small leakage of diesel fuel.

If left unattended, the fuel leak could potentially lead to a fire.

What to do

Stop using the boat and return it to a Mercury dealer for rectification.

The Mercury dealer will replace the fuel return hose with a hose that is not subject to the defect.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing, as simply messing about in boats
