have killers, chased great whites out of oz, to nz?

Recommended Posts

Prior to the absence of white sharks, several killer whales cornered and killed a white shark close to the islands, off the coast near Adelaide, he explained.

"Killer whales are the ultimate top level predator in the ocean's surface waters. White sharks may have been responding to this 'life-threatening' cue and fleeing the area."

Local fishermen have been telling tales of a great white shark larger than a boat - some say up to 9.4m - just off Stewart Island.

Last year terrifying video footage of a mega shark apparently attacking a tiny boat near Picton made waves online.

only video could find that seems to relate

Really? Never heard a thing about that.

I also very much doubt Orca are going to chase Great Whites away. This Fish eats Fish has been the norm since the beginning of...well...err...Fish.

Now that more is known about these big Sharks, there is certainly a migratory path that they take, set by Food sources available. So maybe it's just a case of the Sharks are currently somewhere else at the mo. For instance, Seals are giving birth right now. Sharks could be patrolling Seal Colonies as an example.

Yes, watched a shark week program (nothing else on) and apparently orca will chase great whites out of areas.  They did not say how, but in the area they were discussing both ate seals and I suspect orca are significantly better organised as a pack.

not hard to imagine a big 5m? great white going for a baby orca

and also easy to imagine a pack be mustered for a bit of house cleaning

mid-ocean orca will spend days teaming up to tearing chunks out of blue whales that are steaming along non-stop streaming blood

sea wolves another name
