rigging + engine problems

but not a sinope schooner...

The boat was drifting towards the rocks, the skipper had no means to seek help as his cellphone battery was flat, he had run out of fuel and the engine had broken down."

Wellington sent two of its engineers to repair the yacht's engine and provided 20 litres of diesel to enable the skipper to proceed. A support boat then towed the vessel to the northern side of the peninsula, so that the skipper could safely fix his rigging protected from the weather before resuming his trip.

The yacht's skipper told crew from Wellington that he was on his way to Reefton.

How silly they are heading to sea like this. Not me I'm safe. For the people who think I'm going too head out too sea without the things i need. I am really responsible and I would not head out to sea without having my rigging fixed and my engine working and experience crew onboard. Money makes it hard but I will find a way. :) I have done the cook St in 6m seas was fun. Got too be safe all the time.

Hmmm, that's some new sailing grounds I didn't know about. Has Sea level risen that much already?

I see the guy on the Tiller is well prepared safety wise. He is wearing a Helmet by the looks.

I'm sure you have learnt a lot since the mullet boat Shane, but to be fair that's almost exactly what you did when you crossed the Cook straight in it. Your new boat looks much more sea worthy, good to see you looking into life rafts and professional repairs. Wear a life jacket at all times while off the coast, harness yourself to the boat, make sure your VHF works correctly and know what channels to use.

Just a guess, but I'm thinking the guys in the helmets and ninja suits might be the navy dudes.

And to be pedantic about the article , a motor that has run out of fuel is not 'broken' or needing repair. It needs fuel and bleeding. Makes me wonder what the rigging issue was too, lost halyard or sheet perhaps......

Lee shores , motor issues, lost/ failed  running rigging...These small issues come to haunt us from time to time , its just when they all come together that it becomes .... whats that technical term ?    ... a cluster.

As for Shane ,... it seems like a very short while ago it was all about how to get a trailer sailer from Coromandel to Barrier, now its up and down the coast and a Cook Straight crossing.... all the way to the land of the giant flightless bird, and a new boat

Crew .org should adopt  'im as our mascot, he's living the life while people like me sit at a desk in an industrial area of Auckland .  For 3 more days anyway.

Have a great Christmas Shane .
