What a fabulous day and an Awesome Race !

12 Mullet Boats lined up on the Start Line for what was promising to be a hard fought race, the fleet didn't disappoint the good sized spectator fleet.

After a great start Martin Robertson led his team aboard Orion II taking the lead going into 1st mark and held it all the way to the finish to give Orion II both the Line and Handicap win. They prepared well then sailed very smart.

Congratulations to Mike Thompson and Crew on board Scullet who sailed fantastically taking 2nd Line and 2nd Handicap

Well done to Ben Freedman and Crew on board the 1913 built Valeria with 3rd on Line.

Rob Warring and Crew on board Rangi Manu had a great race coming in with a 3rd on Handicap Win, even after coming very close to capsizing and sinking at one stage.

As the class expands it's followers the fleet included 2 lady Helmspersons and many crew, Annie on her and Rob’s Buona Sera, Wendy on Suzie’s Tao Too and Suzie crewed on her other boat Snatcher.

The Lipton Cup is NZ yachting oldest competed for trophy that is sailed for in 22ft (6.7mt) L Class yachts which are commonly referred to as Mullet Boats. Some of the race fleet are now over 100 years old and are still very competitive. The Logan designed Valeria was launched 104 years ago but that was no barrier to her making 3rd in the hands of Ben and his team.

It was a superb race great for all participating boats and for the large number of spectators.

More photos coming soon.

Halcyondaz, I'll give you the word when the bulk of them arrive, your bound to feature many times.

The photos were taken by Peter Le Scelle. He resides in Perth and came over to see his brother who sailed on Bona Sera. Peter made the mistake of saying he was a photographer..... 'well then do we have a job for you, come this way'

Big Thanks to Peter as he took a gazzillion photos for everyone and did so just for a few beers.
