Help My dripless seal is dripping

Recommended Posts

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping to haul in August and happy to replace then if necessary.

In the meantime how does the toothpaste thing work. If I disturb it water flows in

Excluding damage and the feed water from the leak scenario, then the leak will be from not enough pressure on the bellows( needs adjusting in) or because the seal has become disturbed and the two faces are slightly out or running in a different place. That happened to me after I had the shaft out for a cutless bearing. So like grinding a valve on your Nannas flathead Ford, it needs to re bed in.

I smeared some toothpaste between the faces and ran it . Toothpaste is just fine cutting compound designed to run away with water, and its on the boat.

With the help of this forum in identifying the beast I have now spoken to the manufacturer and suddenly know more about the things than I used too. Essentially I need to increase the compression between the two parts which sounds like the split hose trick offered here earlier, then maybe a replacement when I haul hopefully in August.

Anyone who has the split hose able to supply a photo??

Thanks again to Crew - a valuable resource.
