AC day 5 - 1 day delay

Recommended Posts

apparently from here on out

the winds usually remain light,

so whatever form the boats have shown >10kn - low lift - fast foil set, may not count for much

Today in these winds we will see tnz perform like nothing weve seen yet. I believe they will revel in the low range and after this race all the others including oracle will all hope for breezes above 14knts for the rest of the regatta

Definitely Dean should have covered. In match racing if you cover and get passed by a faster boat, well done them, but if you get passed because they separated and found better breeze, more fool you.

interesting [good], that races are shortened to fit the time slots this time, if that had been the case last time we would have been defending not challenging now?  iirc one of the races was stopped when we were well ahead in light winds as it was going to take too long to finish, and then we lost from 8 1 to 8 9

Televised live on sky today. BAR did kind of make a meal of it although unsurprising differences given the

size of foils on TNZ. Almost a mono foil.

Cover don't cover question remains a no brainer - doesn't matter what class of boat - with 2 evenly matched boats the one with the tactical strength

should win. I'd suggest at this time the result for every team except Oracle is to have made the next round and so shooting away on a flyer is either a "lets see" or "we don't give a rats" moment.

Have we really seen anyone properly covering yet?? The American commentators rant on about how great the number of lead changes they're seeing is -- I'm not so sure it's a good sign!

Seems like perhaps it just takes too much time to prep for a tack and/or the boats lose too much ground in doing so that they feel they have to just keep sailing their own race...?

That's all well and good but when you've got a slender lead on the last leg, logic says to cover otherwise it's just a crapshoot as to whether you'll be ahead at the end and there will be no time to play catch up.

And so it turned out.

Conspiracy theory now out there that in return for design info Deano has made a pact with the devil to not beat Oracle in round robin. Impossible to tell of course.
