jim s 34
Hence my question about starting. All the other possible causes of Fuel getting into the oil would result in hard starting and poor running and likely a lot of smoke. If the engine starts well and runs well, it kind of rules those possibles out. And it takes some time to raise the level as well. Shane has said it goes up a lot in a short period. i've seen belt driven injector pumps leaking big time out the shaft seal all the while the engine starts and runs beautifully - i'm not familiar with shane's type of engine but it appears to have a gear (or chain) driven pump in which case if it had a faulty shaft seal it would leak into the engine oil...Next time i,m in Picton i'll go visit him and see if i can help. wheels 543
If it is indeed a D600, they are a cam driven arrangement. Individual little pistons each fitted directly into the block of the engine and one for each cylinder, so 3 in total. If they leaked, they would not be delivering the correct fuel dose and would also empty while sitting and then not start till they got rid of the air in them and pumped fuel again. They can usually overcome air bubbles.Of course, it may not be a D600 and it may have a separate pump.I too am not able to pop through for awhile, or I would go take a look for him. erice 732
if much diesel has mixed with the engine oil it will feel "thin" when rubbed between thumb + forefinger the fresh oil will feel thicker
wheels 543
Yes indeed erice, but I think that for someone with little experience, it's still quite a hard thing to be sure about. You might feel a difference if you had new and old side bay side and tried that between the fingers test.I think this is Shanes engine, or a similar model anyway.
