Having spent time on this boat with my friend, Paul, the builder and owner, I can attest that while she is built like a brick sh#thouse, she is also very homely, and stylish in her own special way. Would be a fantastic live-aboard / offshore boat for a couple, and her junk rig also suits single-handing to a tee. A really lovely bright interior with just the might mix of painted surface and oiled wood. Has all the gadgets. Has an excellent diesel heater which makes for a toasty cosey interior in winter. The junk rig is very, very easy to handle compared to her Bermudan sisters. Raise and Reef the sail-plan in seconds. Do it all from the cockpit. No foredeck acrobatics. Do note, her sails are not the traditional flat cut 'Blondie Haslar' style. They have in-built camber to each panel which provides a massive increase in drive and power compared to the original western cut flat sails of Blondie's Folkboat 'Jester' which Blondie Haslar made famous. { An interesting side note - Blondie is the originator of Haslar self steering }. Here is a link to a very useful PDF guide about Junk Rig for those not attuned to this type of rig: http://www.junkrigassociation.org/Resources/Documents/Arne%20Kverneland%27s%20files/Junk%20Rig%20for%20Beginners.pdf
mcp 32
A very cool looking Vessel. I'd be interested to know the pros and cons of this type of rig.
Zozza 291
A very cool looking Vessel. I'd be interested to know the pros and cons of this type of rig. Lot of people that have never sailed under the rig will say lots of disparaging things - even though they have never sailed under junk rig. But those that sail them, especially modern cut "cambered" sails, love 'em. I am rigging my Folkboat type as a Junk rig.
