Vor 2017

still in front and slightly to leeward of Vestas I believe. Vestas basically following same track but still closing I suspect.

Akzo to windward of the Vestas track DF rotating forward around them in better breeze.

pretty sure they won't arrive in 2017

(thread title alert)

Seriously, I wish I could be there for it. I've been following it on

YouTube and elsewhere.

Been rooting for the Spanish team (w. Tuke), but they are

lagging right now.

It's a surprise to me how much heel they sail those boats with . .

Akzo about 200 miles from the cape so they'll cut that out in 12hrs ish?

Looks like light winds until about midday tomorrow though, be nice if they came in early evening, be cool to watch them come in around north head.

Yup - meanwhile Brunnel is on a real stomp - pulling back a full 10nm every hour for last 3-4 hours.  The look like they'll carry breeze for a good few hours yet.  They may not catch up but it'll be close.

Anyones leg at this point.

First to the breeze will win this whole leg, at the moment there is a real chance any of the front five (i.e. the whole fleet accept Brunel) could have a crack at burgling the leg.

Looking at the forecasts (which are only forecasts) I reckon first to Cape Brett will win the leg...

All we need now is for someone with a light plane to go for a pre-sunset fly and suss where the breeze is and who is closest to it, KMM?

I'm not happy with Brunel.

Having told my kids that some boats are racing around the world and they will sail past our place this evening on their way into Auckland, my 4 year old daughter wanted to know if Peter Burling was on one of the boats. Having watched all the America's Cup races with me, Peter Burling is her hero, along with the 'Kiwis' on the 'Kiwi boat'.

She even went to the parade in the pissing rain with her Grandad and didn't even complain about getting soaked through.

Anyway, you would not believe how many questions a 4 year old can come up with as to why Peter Burling is coming last...

why he didn't sail as fast as the other boats,

why he wasn't lucky getting the wind shifts,

why the navigator wasn't as clever,

why the other boats might have worked harder to trim their sails,

why the other boats don't have bigger sails

why sometimes you don't win all the time

why sometimes even if you try your hardest you still don't win

why sometimes even the best sailors get last (like Daddy does sometimes...)

why you don't have to win all the time

why its ok to get last if you tried your hardest and did your best, and finally

why you have to go to bed when it is already past your bed time

why...

why...

why...
