Fair Question, Mr. Erice - is a gringo allowed to comment on NZ politics?


Generally I'd say, only when asked; and only as a private citizen. Ms. Beresford did it as a high ranking diplomat. 


I've tried to avoid telling non-USAeans what to do politically - Jeebus knows the US is no role model. 


But there was that episode back in the 1960s when I was complicit in waging a thoroughly unjust and bloodily vicious war 

against the Vietnamese people. My bad - that was much worse than anything Ms. Beresford has done.

you are right that a traditional diplomat 


wouldn't use such strong language to rebuke another gov. (or political party?) publically


but i fear we live in non-traditional times
