Right in there with you on all that.

 

The Vendee is clean and a real test. The stable rules has to have a huge input. No way many of the likes of Conrad and other newbies could get in and prove themselves if it was a new boat each event.

Oh, now i get your point re rule stability. But of course the rules have changed, the okd boats can still sail though. New boats have less power (until foils) and one design keels and rigs.

Tweaks are good but making sure the older generation boats stay legal and aren't disadvantaged, rule wise as designs always evolve usually faster, has meant bigger strong fleets people can grow to know and enjoy.

 

Bit like the Javelins here, even with continual small rule tweaks they ahve made sure you can do OK with an older boat. In fact some of the latest and greatest boats have yet to win big contests against older boats being sailed better.

 

I'd go as far as to say the AC would have died off many decades ago if back in the day they fecked with it like they have been doing over they last decade or so.
