Short Fat Gas Bottle

Recommended Posts

trying to solve a gas bottle locker issue in that i need to build one in the boat.  The ideal place would restict the height of the gas bottlet to 350mm but no restriction on width.  I am also not too hung up on capacity and i could probably get 3 or 4 into the space so thinking is i can get them at 3kg each replacing the current 9kg would be easily acheivable,

Main requirement is that the fitting is the normal bbq type fitting not the smaller camping type.  Anyone know where i could either get an aluminium one custom made or a company that sells random sized bottles?  Google so far only puts me to companies selling standard sizes

two questions,  can you mount gas bottles on there side?  if so then that solves my problem as my current 4.5kg bottles will fit where I want them it lying down.

Otherwise I looked at the 2.2kg but want the normal fitting as I have had trouble getting them filled with the small fittings before.

But maybe this sideways option needs more investigation!

I'm not sure it's a great idea. I shake the one for the home BBQ when it's nearly empty, puts liquid out through the reg instead of gas, which boils off in the hose giving higher pressure = bigger flame, wasn't too out of control with just the odd splash of gas, not sure having a full tank on its side, particularly on a hot day would be a good idea. Also there is something about the burst disk needing to be at the top so it vents gas not liquid if it bursts too. Imagine that in a boat fire, a fountain of liquid LPG being sprayed around, I'm sure a hillbilly has filmed that happening and put it on YouTube somewhere.....

Rawhide... going back to the issue of finding one, I got a short fat bottle from a place on Neilson Street near the end, close to Mt Smart. Can't recall the name of the company. Try Google Earth?
