EPIRB affects on compass

Recommended Posts

I just bought an epirb for my new boat, and I placed it at various positions and distances from the compass. Once I got within +/-30cm I could see the compass move. I decided to mount it on the other side of the companionway.

as stated

try the epirb at various mounting spots and watch the compass

ideally, double the distance where it has the smallest movement

ie distance that only just registers compass movement  15cm

mount distance at least 30cm

bigger, better compoasses have corrector magnets

but very few amateurs could be trusted to adjust them perfectly
