Dry Dock in Picton

Recommended Posts

Port Marlborough is investigating building the biggest Floating Dry Dock in NZ, capable of taking Vessels to 200M in length.
Hmmm, I am  not sure that is a great idea to have in the Sounds.
I know there is a need for the many large vessels we have here in NZ now, But what I am quite surprised about is that why are they even thinking of here. Surely Ports like Nelson, Tauranga, Wellington or even Auckland would be far better suited, having the infrastructure, engineering, expertise, etc. So why have no other Ports considered building one. Or have they considered and decided against. Which make me wonder, if they have not built one due to economics, then surely it would be silly to build one here with absolutely nothing to support it and then expect all that to come.

I'm sure the shareholders are fully appraised of all the economic factors involved and won't move forward unless they decide there's a clear business case that justifies them risking their capital.

Oh wait...
