Island Time 1,235 Posted October 16, 2017 Share Posted October 16, 2017 Just to be clear - this is the fresh water pump on a Shibaura twin engine, right? If it was stuck on with gasket cement (shouldn't be!) it could be tight. Depending on model it can have an alignment dowel into the block, and as many as 8 bolts holding it on. If you are certain you have all the bolts out, then give it a sharp crack with a hammer, then use an old chisel to work under one side. Work that around, and it will come off... Island Time 1,235 Posted October 16, 2017 Share Posted October 16, 2017 hmm, not seen one with only 3 bolts... if all the bolts are out, and the internal corrosion is such that the cast iron mounting flange is breaking from the block when trying to remove the pump, the galleries etc must be in very poor condition. IMO that makes it more important than ever to get the pump out and have a look. Id hit it harder and try to crack the joint. it does not matter if you break the pump its got to come out anyway. Without actually seeing it, its hard to say what I'd do, but perhaps drill and tap the pump, then use a slide hammer to see it if can be pulled out directly. I'd not be happy with an external pump, like electric, with the OEM pump still there - the impellor will likely restrict flow, as will the potential corrosion causing the issue. You want the flow to work as designed, to ensure no hot spots in the block once your going. It needs the galleries clear and the right volume and rate of flow to ensure that. Good luck.
