Dusk-to-dawn anchor led photocell

Recommended Posts

Just be aware that the lamp designed for an incandescent bulb wont have the correct colors with an LED in it, and the light will almost certainly no longer meet the colregs. Those bulbs a VERY likely to cause issues with your VHF reception and transmission.

I would have thought that a guy selling these as anchor lights would have had a lot of negitive feedback if they where switched... ie VHF interfering, as he is selling it specifically into marine anchor light market?

Will try one, and see.

VERY likely to not cause issues with VHF reception. The bulb has a built-in EMI suppression circuit.

Agree with you that one of these bulbs behind colored lenses will probably result in a blue color instead of green.

It is not a big deal to have it tested either.   There are plenty of HAM guys, with spectrum analyzers that would test this for free.

Maybe. I've read their page as well. The proof is in the pudding as they say. Good Nav lights have an LED life expectancy of 50,000 hours, and have the appropriate USCG an Colregs approvals. As a unit (they are sealed). One of the benfits of this is no corrosion in the socket, at the most inaccessible location on your boat (the masthead)  Your boat, do what you like!

Be interesting to see how this bulb performs, at least the manufacturer has apparently made an effort to make it suitable for marine use.

Oh, and its not only the color of the lens and the light through it, but the nature of the diffuser (lens) and its suitability for the multi point light source of an LED bulb.
