42 years today (US time) since the loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald, memorialized by Lightfoot's haunting ballad...

Lyrics in case it's hard to pick up - https://www.azlyrics...fitzgerald.html

(It's currently -2C and dark here in Chicago, about the time she went down; we had our first snow of the season today... a long way south from Superior, but a small reminder of the cold and dark they were in as the tragedy unfolded.)

The searchers were correct . .

"The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her . ."

Sort of amazingly, Mr. Lightfoot is still out there touring.
