Seems Yachting NZ, or the CEO, is struggling to comprehend the 'team' part of Team New Zealand.

Trying to get an individual in for Sportsperson of the year, based on the teams success. Joke.

Wonder what is position is on the dolphin? Shame he can't spend his time on something useful.

"I have been trying to work with Team NZ to try to get them to change their mind. They're not going to budge on it. What I then have to do is talk to Pete. I am sure he will understand."
Yachting New Zealand chief executive David Abercrombie"

YNZ is the middle man... It is the Award selection panel that is pushing for Pete

ETNZ is nominated for the best TEAM... They must be having trouble removing "All Blacks" that was applied until the year 2050 some years ago!

All Blacks aren't this year in so Emirates have won the Sports Team of the Year Award.

The test I'd put to a nomination like Burling, as an example, is 'Could Emirates have won if only Burling was on board?'

Obviously No they wouldn't have so to hold him up as 'The' sportsman is a tad disingenuous, he only stood on the podium (I am assuming they did, never saw it) because he was part of a team, just like every other member of it.

And I would add to that "could they have won if he wasn't" - and I think probably yes. No disrespect to Burling at all, but Ashby is one of the greatest multihull helmsmen in the world, not to mention the actual skipper, and a key driver of the whole program.

Just heard DA on the radio about this.

My takeaways -

He said more than once 'something else is going on'

He gave the impression, a little, Emirates only won due to YNZ

He wasn't amused being questioned on it. Was all rather Winston like actually.

Considering there are some Emirate team members on the list and Emirites doesn't seem to have a problem with them, one does have to wonder how much there is behind the 'something else is going on' comment.

Yeap, very good point and I totally agree with ya.

One does have to wonder.

There has been a quiet but persistence rumour a local syndicate may have been formed or is looking hard at it. Having a PB in your team would be a damn handy if you wanted to be seen as serious.  Is that a 1 + 1 = 3 ...... or maybe it is 2.

No rumours like good AC rumours :) :)

Well has Richie McCaw ever won it?
In that case then one of ETNZ members could go for it.

But should it be Dan Bernasconi, Glen Ashby, or PB?
