There are other places but with Welly being so compact you have a lot real close together. The new place in Birkenhead, North Shore, is worth a suss, 45 beers on tap...Oh yeah. Also they have great knowledge so you can chat with bar dude about them all, highly informative...that can save your buds from the odd bad experiance :)

There is a great little craft beer hang out in Orewa overlooking the beach. Fanatstic food, great atmsophere but the beer tastes worse than my old mans home brew for twice the price of a normal beer. The old man stopped making home brew when his kids started drinking.

Are you meaning the Beer Spot in Northcote KM?

It's a pretty random spot to have a 'pub' but it's bloody good, they're good at getting random little brewers in there as well.

Yeap and totally agree, it is a spot you wouldn't expect to find that but then that area is generally doing pretty OK so maybe better than we first think.

Yeap there are some shockers but amongst them there are also gems. I'm thinking maybe each establishments wares are dictated by the proprietors tastes so if they are or like sh*t then.........

New on the Taps

Harley has been away this week so we have been a bit slack on the tapping new kegs front...

Los Lobos from the Garage was tapped last weekend and no surprises it is rocking out the door.

For something really different then look out for the Parrotdog Microflora Specimen B Hop Sour. Rumour has it that this has more hops in it than an imperial IPA while being an embarrassing low 5.1%. But the juice is good so we just had to put it on.

Miserable amount of Hops on Pointe and One Way St so look to the board for special pricing on this front.

You can check out our live listing here

This weeks current line up....

  1. Garage Project Los Lobos IPA 8%
  2. Eagle The Herb IPA 6%
  3. Funk Estate Gin Barrel IPA 6%
  4. Garage Project Hops on Pointe Pilsner 6.7%
  5. Garage Project Garagista IPA 5.8%
  6. Garage Project Death From Above IPA 7.5%
  7. Rocky Knob One Way Street Imperial IPA 7.9%
  8. Parrotdog Microflora Hop Sour 5.1%
  9. Boneface Ace of Spades Mocha Milk Stout 7%
  10. Epic Hysteria IPA 6.9%

Anything Garage Project sells like hotcakes apparently, Liquorland Forest hill had some 500ml G.P bottles that were $45 each, (yes - forty five dollars), as I got my rigger filled I questioned how many they sell and the girl said they were selling quite well (and that some people will buy anything from Garage Project solely because it's Garage Project...)

The dumb thing about LL Newmarket is you can't taste your beer before you buy it because of the taps they've got.  I like being able to taste what I buy first otherwise it's a lottery.

Hopscotch in Newton Gully have one of the best selections around, always seem to have multiple stouts/porters on the go as well which is nice.

(tried this stuff at GABS last year -  Mythica - Ixcacao Double Chocolate Stout, superb)

Martin must have an understanding wife to let him brew in the house...

Yeah she is awesome and understanding:

  • Let's her husband brew in the house
  • Is a whizz with epoxy and carbon
  • Convinced her husband to order a Pogo...

... also, she married me not Martin, which I find to be pretty cool ;)
