It all depends where you are on the water , boat helps but position on water is it , Spencer boats are fast especially down wind I sailed sailent reciently and man crack sheets and hang on they fly ,

I watched Trubi the other day go out and win a rum race single handed, against at least a dozen boats, including a couple of sharp ones.

Not that it was really a fair fight, but the fastest elapsed time in last years night race to kawau was a solo GBE (me). Beat a couple of fully crewed 52s.

As soon as it gets technical, solo sailors are disadvantaged but otherwise given the same boats they can do pretty well in lighter conditions

Some are. Voom is built from 2 layers of 100mm wide strips of ply I think. Double diagonally planked.
