This was related to me some years ago, some might have knowledge on the facts

There was a well known club based in the Endeans buildings Downtown Auckland a number of years ago. A crewman was given the responsibility to be entrusted in taking home and bring to the "A"class on Saturday morning one anchor warp. Apparently the evening wore on and at close the crewman was to catch the ferry to Devonport. But as the story goes he spied the pie cart and a tram .tied one end to the pie cart and the other to the tram.

Whether the tram took off with the pie cart or the warp spotted the story is unclear. No doubt some one will have similar yarns from yesteryear.
