I have no doubt he has the best intentions but he is effectively saying 'females are so useless they can't stand on their own feet without handouts from some old pale and stale males'.

It's 2018, not 1970.

WTF????  One old pale male with gender issue and now another with race issues.

What a sad world it's fast becoming.

How is this 'Marine Talk'?

At best it should be in YNZ Talk, but as it looks like one persons perception of one news article then its right up there with all the 'go nowhere' political threads down in Small Talk.

And, think you'll find when Native refers to abbo he is meaning David Abercrombie, the author of the article you are traumatised by, and the CEO of Yachting NZ. But you can beat it up into race if you want, but if you do, this thread is bound to be a waste of time.

Plenty of girls are keen on racing, its a fact that they are at a disadvantage when to comes equal pay, boat ownership and even participation especially if they have families. Well designed boats dont need brawn as much as brains, last cup all you needed for some key roles were brains and playstation skills :)

The real question is why are there so few professional female sailors coming up through the ranks, I cant recall any female sailors in recent cups?

Affirmative action would be a good thing for the sport initially, gender divisions in sailing where brute force is not required has always seemed a tad patronising.

Yeap and 99.9% of the time that disadvantage is brought to and inflicted on them by old males whose attitudes have yet to leave the 1960's. Those old misogynists are the ones not letting the ladies thrive using the vast array of merits most do have.

What David (which is apparently the translation of abbo) and Fish are saying is they want the rules changed to force ladies onto boats just because they have tits. I can't think of anything more short sited and patronising.

One would expect the head of an organisation like YNZ to be promoting and encourage people due to their skills not just because of their genitals.

I never said that.

Start with getting your facts straight KM.

This thread will end up as another pissing match between you and one or maybe two other people going around in circles for weeks.
