vic008 17
Am using mesh from household sieves and they last say 3mth before burning out. Anyone know of a longer lasting mesh?
chariot 242
Probably cheaper to buy a new toaster
Black Panther 1,568
Solid stainless. Will probably outlast me
Battleship 100
What's a POC? is that like a POS? Anyway we tried one of those mesh ones, looked like it should work well but doesn't. We ended up going back to the old faithful, same as the one BP posted.
Dtwo 157
What's a POC? is that like a POS? Undecided if POC = Piece Of Crap or Product Of China. Probably doesn't matter which.
Black Panther 1,568
Makes great toast. Sorry no idea where to get one. It came with the boat.
Crazyhorse 47
Got a Dixon. Trouble is, it burns the crusts before it actually toasts the bread because they are a upright type and the crust sits on a ledge that gets hotter than anything else so you are forever rotating the bread to avoid charcoal. chariot 242
Had a BP model but sold it with the boat. Now have mesh type. Mesh type do tend to burn the toast if not rotated.
splat 55
Secret with the dixon is to get it hot first(element),then wind it back down on a small ring before you put desired bread on too toast.Element when hot will toast far more evenly.
Black Panther 1,568
I wish I could tell you what mine is. 4 slice perfect results.
SMU's Crew 4
I seem to recall they are called a pyramid toaster, found one here: https://www.kiwicamping.co.nz/product/pyramid-camp-toaster
vic008 17
Yeah well still waiting for someone to suggest a mesh that will last longer. A heavier mesh I suppose.
SMU's Crew 4
Try somewhere like Ulrichs that deals in metal.
wheels 543
Yeah well still waiting for someone to suggest a mesh that will last longer. A heavier mesh I suppose. There are many SST's that are suited to heat. 2205 is far better than 316, but I don't know anyone that supplies it as a mesh. SST's that have titanium in them are even better. Once again, don't know if you can buy as a mesh. So the issue will be in what is available in NZ. 304 and 316 is your most common and 316 I expect would be your best choice of the two. But neither is really designed to be used red hot like a Toaster is. So they will not last long term and how long exactly is dependent on how red. The hotter will result in the shorter. The next issue will be in how much you can buy. Most companies sell in 1 metre minimum and some you might find will sell in 1/2 metre lengths. The stuff is expensive. So you may be best to go with the replacement mesh they sell for these toasters. i can only imagine it is the best choice of material to be used as a toaster. And at the 30 odd dollars, that is a fair price, as the stuff is expensive.
vic008 17
Well that toast has just had carbon monoxide plus countless other gases blasted at it. I wouldm't think you would want to eat that-pretty toxic.
ScottiE 174
We’ve got a Dixon and can concur with BooBoo’s advice on how to use it Here’s one that looks very similar to BP’s https://www.completeoutdoors.co.nz/campmaster-stainless-steel-pyramid-camp-toaster-677?gclid=Cj0KCQjwxN_XBRCFARIsAIufy1Z2yqGwzYW06ivJZuSHz-onww-hSLNMHJf9KnEw75w-FoiTfpGVeyAaAuSDEALw_wcB Here’s another for quite a bit less https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1630783776&mkwid=soqz2GVcw_dt&pcrid=190459635105&pkw=&pmt=&plid=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxN_XBRCFARIsAIufy1YXic6Hdf9-TOtJGn_-MZHQk3_LIAF25MhYuTJusMCOxuCevvANVrYaAgoPEALw_wcB

Fish 0
Bacon & Eggs anyone?
Fish 0
I just use a little square non-stick pan, about $15 from Burnsco. There is probably something nasty in the non-stick, but it saves burning toast, then burning your fingers saving the toast, and, oh well...
Chewing Gum 17
Solid stainless. Will probably outlast me Same - they work well
