Alloy mast

Today we hauled the mast of my mates boat it’s raw alloy old but very good condition striped every thing off for new stays and rigging Halyards ets we want to clean it off and just polish it , what do we do , sand it , autosol it what , it’s made of good alloy from the old days

If it is not anodized.   Wipe clean it with Acetone and it will remove the oxidised layer.

Absolutely Kevin, the surface oxidation does indeed protect the mast. If there is no actual corrosion to deal with, I'd leave the mast alone, unless you intend to paint it.

Thanks it just looks crappy , I remember the gipsy moth masts were the originals and they just polished them and they looked brilliant , not sure if they were sanded to get an even surface

Word of caution.

You do not see many if any masts finished with this product here and maybe the reason could well be durability.

Right royal pia to become a slave to topical products.

As others have posted maybe best just to clean and leave to the elements.
