Carpet on cabinsole?

Recommended Posts

Having tossed out the idea of a fancy teak and holly cabin sole, I am tossing up either painting it with a non-skid, or some sort of interior carpet.  My worry about the carpet on the cabin sole is the obvious - cleaning, rotting and smelling.   Anyone know a good brand that they have laid down on their interior cabinsole?

Cheers

Thanks native

Im looking for a carpet I can cut to shape but not glue down or anything, so if it turns out to rot or too hard to clean, I can just pick it up and toss it out and think of something new.

We went with an Autex product, latex backed. It was easy to cut to shape and stays in place pretty well. When it get dirty, wet etc pull it out, hose it down, let it dry and back in the boat. Been in a year now, still looks new.

We used that rolled carpet type stuff from burnsco,,easy to cut/fit  lift out to dry, does not rot, Tended to leave lifted when not onboard as can/does feel damp when boat locked for a week.

We've had carpet onboard for years. Just looking at replacing it now. I think the main rule is to get synthetic. Not wool. No wool derivatives. No wool blends. Just outright synthetic. My understanding is that this also happens to be the cheaper stuff in the household lines

Had nylon carpet on cabin sole for years. One long piece sewn together and held down with dome snap fasteners. Lift it up at end of season, hose it down, dry it and it is good to go again. Much more pleasant to walk on in bare feet than damp, salty floor boards. Also less slippery when underway.
