20k hasn't met the reserve though.

Was talking to a mate about that the other day and trying to guess how much it'd cost to finish.

He's a chippie and wondered if $150K would cut it out which I doubted

Any guesses?

Don’t think a mil would finish it

No motor gearbox shaft prop, rig standing and running, sails, genset, watermaker, stainless, covers, soft furnishings, galley expensive bits, electronics, electrical, plumbing and fixtures to name but a few

But if you want this then it would be cheaper than starting from scratch

I "THINK" this is the Wilkinson design, that was (is?) being built by Bob in the half round barn on Beach Road, Onerahi.

I had been wondering what happened to her, I'm guessing Bob would have passed by now. He's certainly not living in his old place.

Looks like she has been tamed down somewhat, that hard dodger was going to be split, and retract into the deck.

When I first met him (as a kid, me) I asked him if she was a Warwick design. Bad move, I don't think he ever forgave me. He went on a serious rant about his own design pedigree, and the next time I saw him he was criticizing the drop bulb on an Elliot 7.4.

Interesting bloke.

It would be a good marina live-aboard . Which reminds me of a beast of a boat at hobsonville with no rig being lived on . Anyone know about that boat ? About 15m plumb bow , minimal coach roof , heaps of freeboard

102 ft super yacht glass hull that was sitting outside the now closed Fitzroy yachts ended up broken up by a digger and taken to the dump.

What I was told about that one was it was laid up overseas without any attention to survey requirements , layup etc.  Brought here for fitout ( the complete interior and teak etc was with it) , but they discovered there was no way to get survey. No survey , no insurance = waste of time finishing.

I always thought the thing should have gone off and been a house somewhere.

Meanwhile, a big black yacht destined never to feel the wind in her sails is causing headaches for Fitzroy Yachts.

On Friday night contractors attempted to blow up the framing which supports the 33m sleek vessel on the company's forecourt near Ngamotu Beach.

The aim was to have it fall on its side on the ground so the yacht could be broken up and demolished.

But the explosives proved ineffectual and the yacht, named the Northwind when it arrived at Port Taranaki in February 2008, remains firmly in place.

The sorry history of the yacht-which-never-was included it being shipped to New Plymouth by its North American owner when he was dissatisfied with the quality of its construction in Taiwan.

Ironically the same owner had passed over Fitzroy Yachts' original price to build the yacht, choosing the cheaper option in Taiwan.

When the yacht arrived five years ago, the intention was for Fitzroy Yachts to inspect the fibreglass composite vessel and make it shipshape.

But the original work was so bad it was unable to be fixed.

The owner went into a legal wrangle with the original builders and the yacht was left to sit it out.

Mr Herd said the company would now discuss with the contractors other methods to pull it down.

There was a rumour which I think I may have started that it could have been bought for a dollar, as long as you didn’t take the many tonnes of lead with it, but I also heard it cost around 20 k just to move it 100m out of the shed, breaking it up and dumping would have also cost a lot. Last time I looked the mast was still there, all shiny white paint and not sure what underneath?
