FYI, brought to you by the NZ taxpayer...

$15.1 million in sailing funding for the current 4 year cycle https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11767553

$3.8M in 2018 out of a total high performance budget of $36M https://hpsnz.org.nz/about-us/news-media/high-performance-reconfirms-core-investment-for-2018

One other point of interest from the video coverage today after the completion of the RS:X races was seeing live footage of KZ-7, NZ's first AC challenger, now under the Danish flag, but still in original livery with New Zealand KZ 7 on the side. Can't give you the exact timestamp yet as the stream is still running but I think it will turn out to be around the 1hr 40 min mark here -

I was watching this with great interest. there was really good coverage of the regatta on face book.

By all accounts our sailors seemed to lose out on the luck stakes a little. although some say you make your own luck.

It looked like a prick of a place to sail. 90 degree windshifts, calm and choppy and then a huge squall coming through in one of the Finn races which by most accounts should have seen the race abandoned. they were abandoning other races for large windshifts etc.

Seems like Iker Martinez is up to his neck in a rule 69 infraction after being found to have illegally modified his Nacra.

My guess is he'll get banned until after the next Olympics at least

Yeah another case in point was the 49erFX medal race where the Austrians were heading for gold with an 11 point lead, capsized on the last upwind in a big right shift autotack, finished the race last and dropped to silver overall behind the Dutch. Still, if you listen to the commentary in the period leading up to it, they were predicting exactly the shift that occurred, so you can argue it still comes down to skill... https://youtu.be/786GQMOIFzc?list=PL0yLg4wYxxpd3wUyEnHV3N36bMB3YCG55&t=3605

Also I believe Bruce Kendall coached GBR's 4th placed women's competitor... at least he was seen greeting her with a hug as she came ashore after the medal race.

Would be interesting to know if there are other Kiwis coaching abroad.
