I object to my money helping pay for it. It is my observation that 90% of cyclists drive somewhere, then unload bike and do their cycling, often 3 abreast. So not one car less on the road. The cycle lanes are always empty!

I thought penlink got the green light?

Oh yes, thats what the headlines said. Its consented, the route is designated, and they've said they will build it.

We're paying a targeted transport rate for it (only those in Rodney, so those in Chch don't have to get upset if we ever actually get the infrastructure we're paying for)

They just didn't say when....

Its not in the 10 year plan.

So we are no further ahead than we were 30 years ago.

Why the hell arent bloody aucklanders paying for this.  The rest of us shouldnt have to pay for aucklands parasites(cyclists) who never pay for any of the infrastructure they demand.  The rest of NZ is sick and tired of paying for everything for aucklanders.

May I please have the Christchurch Southern Motorway back?

May I please have Transmission Gulley back?

May I please have SH1 Blenhiem to Kaikoura back?

And many many other lower profile transport / roading projects paid for by the govt.

I haven't and never will use any of them.

Yep I reckon most of us down here would be happy enough to become a republic ,cut the cord and let the island float away.parliment could be run from the Mahiniapua pub.Would get a lot better value for money and a lot smarter political decisions.

Really? Given that they are all state highway 1, there’s s good chance you might unless you’re one of those sucklanders that never leaves Auckland except to travel to Fiji . And there’s an almost 100% chance some of the products you buy will have traveled on those roads at some point.

What is 100% sure is that unless you have an urge, nobody , not even aucklanders will gain squat from that bike path

Whenever cyclists appear in a thread I am astounded at the vitriol thrown at them. What harm has ever come to another from someone riding a bike?

Still think that the skypath is putting lipstick on a pig. As for cycling, you heard it here first, there will be an e-bike revolution in Auckland.

I agree BP, they have as much right to the road as anyone. Should, like all road users, obey the road rules....

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing, as simply messing about in boats

yeah it's weird the angst that gets chucked about

for skypath i'll be annoyed at having to pay $5? to cycle across

cycleway.jpg

while cars and trucks above

vibrate + crack along the top for free

the sydney harbour bridge has always had cars, trucks ,trains, cyclists + pedestrians

the private damage causing cars + trucks had to pay, not the soft foot-powered
