316 SS shackles on anchors?

Recommended Posts

Due to the pin on normal shackles catching the bow roller, I went with a galv flathead screw in type but they are Chinese (Burnsco) and of course no stress testing. Whilst its held for a year now, I would prefer something that has a SWL limit for peace of mind. I been told S/S is stronger, more tensile strenght than galv but no idea what weight loading they can take? Unfortunately the only stress certified shackles I can find have a pin that sticks out the side.

Can you not hacksaw the protruding bit off. Yachting Monthly found galv slightly stronger and less brittle than SS. Sorry that was chain they spoke of. Galv tested shackles had the highest strength but variable results."ss shackles proved to be consistently stronger than equivalent galv steel ones" So doesn't look like much difference

In around 6-8 weeks there will be countersunk SS shackles that have reliable ratings in NZ. They are leaving the EU this week.

KM, on your anchor line you couldn't mouse a shackle like that, or is there some means whereby you can?
