Apologies if has been asked before, where is the best place to find teak. Only looking for a couple of cubes of around 60mm so off-cuts would be perfect. Ta.

There are likely to be some suppliers - $$$

Can you do it in some other kind of wood?

I've found discarded garden furniture and BBQ sometimes have some quite nice wood.

Otherwise, a piece like that could be cut from a dead Pohutukawa (hard/strong/durable) or a piece of Puriri (even harder) sometimes sold as firewood. You could also press a suitable piece of Kanuka into service - incredibly hard, just watch grain orientation.

Unless you desperately absolutely need teak of course...

  • Suss a local boat builder.
  • Some of the BIGGER mega size hardware outfits carry assorted moldings and the like out of many timbers these days, one may work for you after a small modification.
  • Be more specific on size and quantity. Among the many here and the lurkers there are many crusty old farts with scrap bins full of awesome good sh*t.
  • Local cabinet makers. Rich pricks like Teak and they may have recently done Winston a new kitchen.

Harsh and I know I shouldn't be laughing........... but I maybe

Thanks All,  exact dimensions are 2 blocks of 40 x 50 x 60mm if there are any teak-laden scrap bins out there.
