I think we’re under supplied with the right kind of houses, and adequately supplied with the wrong kind ( but they are poorly allocated...?)

some good stuff here

but at the end of the day

educated guesses

all anyone can offer

Recent data shows property prices are now falling sharply in many cities including in Sydney, Melbourne, London, New York and Vancouver.

Historically, Auckland follows behind Sydney by about 12-18 months and their property market is currently falling sharply.

You know when a industry mouth piece pushes this out there is obvious signs of looming a problem.
Only a month ago they were banging on about the resiliency of the local housing market and more recently that your St Mary’s Bay villa earns more than you do weekly by way of capital gain.
Bring it on I say and anything that halts the ridiculous march of costly housing is a good thing.
Ask the offshore investor groups who bulk brought residential here with freshly printed dodgy Chinese loot how they are feeling about a slide in values, they won’t be shaking yet as they have well cleaned their cash.

I cant see much worse that a stagnation occurring, simply as prices have reached an unobtainable level.

But a drop in prices would make my day, I want a bigger house!

Houses prices in Auckland are dependent on which market youre talking about. The very top is doing just fine, some suburbs are correcting and some are raging ahead.

Even if house prices drop by the 10-15% those that brought at the top end cannot afford to resell due to borrowings. Heard that those that invest from China?? maybe borrowing the money at 0-1% from Chinese banks, dont know how it works but it seems to be working.
