This boating obsession has got to stop!

My No.1 son sent me some photos of the bay he is anchored in at the BOI.

He took the photos from his own boat, a Warwick 44.

Also in the bay is my No.2 son in his Chico 36.

And a steel Hartley Silver Fin I built 30 years ago.

And an Elliott 9.1, No.2 son's former boat.

And Waller 36 cat that my No.1 son built.

They are waiting in the expectation that the Cav 39, the H28 and the Crewcut may also arrive..

Except where are the canal stories ?

Well I wish I had something to write about canal boating, but the boat is sitting in a marina in Nancy and I'm sitting here in Whangamata and one does not wish to appear ungrateful, but it's hard. So the time until we are reunited is crawling along and in the meantime I am trying to build little bits of stuff in IKEA style to take back to France in April - an exercise complicated by the fact that I don't have quite enough photos and not quite enough measurements for what I am trying to do. And concerning going back, at the moment we are quite happy with the thought of the boat alone and unattended, but we both know that come March a large amount of nervousness is going to creep in about the boat's condition and what we will find...

So in the meantime Joke has decided that we should resume sea kayaking after a 15 year hiatus as a way to enjoy the summer and that is bringing its own difficulties. I can't Eskimo roll the boat any more, a paddle float re-entry is probably reminiscent of Happy Teeth heaving itself onto the pier at Westhaven and a 10km paddle produces aches in places most doctors never even heard of.

Ageing is a bit of a buggar.

Did he buy that W44 recently (and does it have green trim)? If so, I was anchored next to it (S side of Robertson island) and recognised the boat as a nice example I took close interest in buying last year. I didn’t obviously.
