Today we walked up to the remains of the old kauri dam. Great walk, about 3 hours walking return.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing, as simply messing about in boats

Good stuff... sailing and Bush walking.. two of the best pastimes imo. Throw in some fresh kai moana and a cold beer at the end of the day and all is well with the world :)

We anchored in Kaiarara the same season as the ex tc that did all the damage a few years ago. When you think of all that timber washed down its amazing that there aren't more anchor hook ups that we have. Heard about a few epic ones, pulled a 20 ft forked bough up last year ourselves. But the interesting thing that happened to me was the alteration in the makeup of the silt, we had old chain just at that rusty look stage and when we hauled that up , there was a chemical reaction going on you could see , just like metal in a rust solution, vinegar or something. The old chain went bright.
