DrWatson 375
So, I now have 40m of AQUA4 Maggi chain with 60m of 14mm warp. I have a 16kg Sarca EXCEL. I have 2 shackles, with 1.5T breaking point, 0.75T working load written in documentation from the package. These shackles. https://jimmygreen.com/galvanised-shackles/34088-galvanised-shackles-certified-green-pin Web site talks about 6x safety factor and indicates shackles have breaking load of 4.5T even though the documentation that came with the kankles says 1.5T. Who to believe? Also, boat came with the 14kg FOB ROC, coupled to some 8mm chain with a kong swivel. These any good? Really necessary? I'm kind of a shackle guy myself... wheels 543
Genuine Van Geest shackles have a 6:1 breaking load. So if you have a 9mm shackle and it has a working load of 0.75 tonne, the breaking load should be 4.5 t, not 1.5 t. The shackle will be stronger than the 8mm Chain breaking load and it won't distort till near it's breaking point.

vic008 17
Yachting Monthly 5/06 have a 4 page test of shackles (galv & ss, incl Jimmy Green) and chain links, very informative. (Could post but having in focus stumped me)
Young Entertainer 59
Just check that the shackle fits both on the anchor and the chain. I did something similar recently and the shackle where the pin fits through 8mm chain doesn't fit in the shank so ended up with two, apparently need to use a Stainless D shackle to only have one. Seems to be the one complaint of the excel
