For Tauranga north I agree with raz88 with the proviso that some areas have changed (silted up) since the updates finished in the Akkers book, still the best guide though.

The Spot X cruising guide is pretty good and laid out nicely with map images in colour.

Pickmere Atlas of Northland’s East Coast. Long out of print but a treasure trove of detailed charts and notes for exploring that part of the coastline.
