GTL diesel

We are in Holland now and there is a lot of promotion of GTL (gas to liquid) diesel. It is diesel fuel made from natural gas. The fuel attracts a surcharge of around 5% over bio diesel and many are the wondrous claims made on its behalf but the one of interest to me is the statement that the fuel contains no impurities, water or emulsified water and is thus suitable for long term storage as it does not support diesel bug. This would have obvious benefits as I leave the boat for six months unattended and with pressed up diesel tanks.

Do we have GTL diesel in NZ, and are their any opinions on this fuel i.e. are the claims true or just advertising hype?

No we don't have it here.
It can be made in several ways. I am surprised they use CNG as that is already a fuel and I would have thought that would be sort after just as it is. The other way it can be made and IMO, way better idea, is using Co2 and then adding hydrogen to then make a hydrocarbon.
Syn Fuel is pure in that they make just the chains of Hydrocarbons required for that Fuel type. Refined fuel has longer or shorter chains than required and when they are burnt, the exhaust thus has unwanted emissions in it.
Yes it is water free. But only when it is made. There is no telling when water could enter the Fuel later on down the track. Example, an underground storage tank may already have water in it. Your fuel tank may get water in ways other than delivered with the fuel. So I don't think they can rule water out entirely.
