I have a solar panel that shows acceptable volts 17 plus but only half an amp when plugged into controller. Is this how solar panels die??

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing, as simply messing about in boats

Could also be corrosion in the wiring.    Is there a sticker on the panel showing specs and do you have a multimeter?

What size panel?
Are you measuring OC voltage or measuring when it is connected? 17V is not a lot for OC. It should be in the mid twenties.

Well if one is performing and the other not, I guess that's question answered.
