Guest Posted March 27, 2011 Share Posted March 27, 2011 Anyone installed a vacuum gauge in place of the tee handle on Racor FG500/900?The racor gauge is pretty pricey.A few gauges at Amazon in the US$10 range.They look like they may have the same pipe thread as the Racor gauge.So you would just have to solve the adapter problem? What's the benefit of having a vacuum gauge on your Racor filter? presumably it'll tell you something about the state of your filter(s) and/or the health of your fuel pump(s)? How often would something like that need to be eyeballed to make it worth adding? Does this have the potential to alert you to possible trouble before it strikes? ... or is it more of a diagnostic tool to tell what went wrong after the fact? Link to post Share on other sites
wheels 543 Posted March 29, 2011 Share Posted March 29, 2011 Tells you how clogged the filter is. Personally, changing the filter every 12months is the better policy. They are surprisingly cheap. If it cloggs before 12months, you have an issue that needs a look at ASAP. Replacing the filter means you get to eyeball the thing and see what gunk if any is on the surface. Guest Posted March 29, 2011 Share Posted March 29, 2011 A gauge could be handy if you have an ongoing fuel problem with stuff stuck to the tank surfaces.A professional fuel cleaning guy cannot get it all out if your tank has baffles.Most owners dont want to hack into the tank.Dumping all the fuel wont fix the tank.Putting lots of biocide in will kill the bugs but wont clean the tank.So......sometimes........the best solution is to buy lots of filters.
