MATAKANA RAID 2010

Hi All,

The Matakana Raid was highly successful with 7 boats taking part. One from Akarana Yacht Club, one from Hamilton and five Tauranga boats. The boys from Doyles sailed the COLDPLAY and it was a very interesting start with sw 15knts gusting 20knts . They couldnt wait to get the kite up and you guessed it, over she went and I sailed passed on my old mans tri SHAMARA. All the Nacra were gone! All arrived at omokoroa in an hour and a half for a hot coffee.

LEG 2 start at Omokoroa cardinal, up the inner harbour flying kites all the way. The boys on COLDPLAY showed me the speed on the GPS, 23knts in a meter of water! How fast were the nacras going then! We got up to Athenree 2.30pm and the cold beers were waiting thanks to my lovely wife, she does know what the boys wont!!! A nice swim in the hot pools at the Athenree Hot Springs Motor Camp where we were staying was great. All the boats parked up on the grass with us sitting around talking boats and shi... it didnt matter as long as beer was flowing. A BBQ was put on great stuff !!! A little party after that hard day of racing saw us through the night. Sunday LEG 3, race back to Tauranga, the Auckland boys showed us the way back. Wind was on the nose all the way, about four hours later of hard work tacking and the crew on Shamara gave up and pulled the rum out. Fuel Injected, a nacra 17, had Commodore from TYPBC as crew - good stuff Rog! Leg One and Two to Octane and Leg 3 to Nakarana. Looking forward to the 2011 Raid, to be around about 16th March next year - See You There!
