Mothership 6
Not this time around. Uphill for the first bit. Looks rather unpleasant.

markm 30
Forecast, at the start the only consolation for the crews is that it can only get better. Suspect we'll see one or two broken boats.

wal 27
Nasty 12-18 hours after the start. Get through the night and it all gets better as Mark said
Guest
Rain too!!!! Good thing Atom Ant isn't going, he doesn't like rain.
Guest
I see even the punters are now falling into 'It's all about the glamours only' mode like many YC's seem to have. The race started before this thread did.
Rangi1 50
Yep, cruising boats left yesterday. They'll be doing it tough for the next few days
Atom Ant 0
Rain too!!!! Good thing Atom Ant isn't going, he doesn't like rain. I resemble that remark!
Guest
Yep, cruising boats left yesterday. They'll be doing it tough for the next few daysI suggested they were cruisers last time this came up..... and then got promptly lambasted for doing so. Tread carefully
Guest
with 100 hours of motoring time allowed the cruisers should have i pretty good VMG
Guest
I'm going to try this one last time. Why are the fleets for these island races so small???
Battleship 100
I'd say it's a number of things not just one single thing. The hassle of compliance would be a major along with the costs involved and the time off work, getting crew who can also get the time off work and once your there you still have to get the boat back. The chances of good close racing is pretty slim. Must be more..
Guest
Cost..... time and money
Guest
Lack of any boats to race against.
chic014 0
The squadron has a nice tracking system running here: http://live.adventuretracking.com/aucklandtofiji2011 Can see the two boats in the cruising division at the moment, with everyone else sitting in Auckland
Murky 1
18-odd crews who have organised the boats and gear, time off work and families, accommodation and airfares etc in this state of the economy - it doesn't sound too bad to me. More than I could have managed at the moment anyway.
Chill Pill 1
I would be keen to take the Valium up to the islands, but at 35ft knowone to race against.
