Scallop dredge wankers

Even had a stoush with Darryl Crimp over some minor thing.

Weeeell, now I could imagine Crimpy winding him up just because Crimpy would find that funny.

The original guy was indeed Nelson if I remember correctly. So maybe it was him. Although many tried their own versions as well over the years. We even had our own too. A local company did the Ally work and I spent many hrs lacing flamin net and hooking up chain and so on. The net was the really expensive part if I remember rightly. But I can remember we got some big cut off hunk from Nelson. Oh boy 20yrs ago, seems so long to the memory.

I agree that dredging is an appaling practise, lazy and destructive. If you want some scallops get your fat arse out of the cockpit and go diving for them (free-driving as I do or scuba). If you're too lazy or unfit to dive then go buy them. End of story.

Down here, there's little chance of diving for them. It's just too deep. There are indeed one or two places that you can dive. But especially in the Pelorus, dredging is the safest way.

Yeah QC is easier to dive on them and the water is much clearer there. The inner Pelorus where it is shallow enough to dive, is too dirty. The Outer sound is mostly too deep, apart from Ketu which is around 60ft. It is why it is the most heavely dredged, because it's depth is accessible. Everything else is approaching 200ft.
