Guest
Catching up after a hectic couple of days and noticed this has been cancelled http://www.noonsite.com/Members/sue/R2010-06-08-1 The reasons given that they were unable to get sponsorship. So they launch an event with lots of hoopla and press, get over 100 interested parties, but it was never on. 1) why not get the funding organised first? 2) if all those people want to sail arounf australia why don't they just do it? They could make it a rally if they wanted, it can be run without sponsors - tell everyone what day you are starting then leave. DOe s a "cruising" event need lots of sponsorship dollars?? markm 30
Bob Williams, the organiser, has developed something of a reputation for organising events, doing the whole press thing and have them die an ignominious death. I suspect that may be part of the reason segments of Australian sailing were regarding it all with a degree of cynicism. You may recall from a few years ago for example, various incarnations of a round Antarctica race.
