“Yachting New Zealand recognises that this forum connects with a whole lot of sailors and boaties out there, and offers us an opportunity to develop a better connection with you.

We decided to create “YNZ Talk”; initially it will be a forum for us to post updates, issues we feel may interest you or you may want to get involved in (lifejacket regulation changes, etc) and also for us to be able to ask your opinion on matters we are working on.

We want to keep this forum constructive and useful for you and for us. As such we may limit the ability to post replies on some threads; however it may prompt discussion in other areas of the forum.

We will trial the forum for the next few months; if it is proving to be a good thing then we’ll keep it going.

We hope that this will be something you appreciate and find helpful, and our aim is to give you a better understanding of what YNZ is doing and encourage you to engage with us more. As always we are happy for people to come and see us, or pick up the phone and give us a ring.

YNZ send me stuff most weeks. It's normally on the front page, although I don't post everything. I'm not going to go back and count all the stuff, but You can if you like... :D
They are also free to post to this thread if they want to, and have done so in the past.

Feedback given so far has been collated and will go into the review of the next edition of the Safety Regulations, which come into effect on January 2021.

From the Golden Globe Race Committee: Imo. relevant to Cat 1 and if taken with a dose of common sense could / should make cat 1 redundant

 

The changes to the notice of race may surprise many. We do NOT mandate a drogue or special storm training or mandatory guidelines on masts and spars, as some suggest we could. In fact we have dropped all previous regulations that existed on masts and spars (other than lengths) and are leaving this critical issue entirely to the skippers. This is in the true spirit of the GGR. They know what to expect. We and they, are and have been, talking about it at length. Their riggers and mast makers are acutely aware of the serious challenge. they saw what happened. anything we mandate is not relevant. If the GGR said entrants must have a rig like X with Y and include Z, we would be creating a one design fleet, which no one wants.

In relation to storm tactics and equipment like storm drogues, no individual or expert exists with a sure solution, or the ultimate answer. Every boat, storm, wave pattern and situation IS different, so we will NOT regulate what the entrants must do, or should have. Like all good sailors, we keep discussing it, learning and researching, then make our own decisions and face our own destiny. their life is in their hands. If there is one thing all entrants are very aware of and serious about, it is how they plan to survive the Southern Ocean. They do not need us to tell them and we have no guarantee to give.

Read the first line again, its dead on topic and should be copied to the YNZ Race Regulations Cat1-Cat5; Anomalies and concerns thread too.

The more that YNZ gets pointed out to them the dissatisfaction and over bearing nature of the Cat 1 regime the better.

Disagree. The first 6 words read "From the Golden Globe Race Committee: "  The rest of the article starting with the words 

 

"The changes to the notice of race may surprise many." refers to the GGR. "This is in the true spirit of the GGR" and is a race talk thread topic.
