  1. What say the members of this forum construct either a petition or a survey to encourage YNZ to fulfill their natural role. The role that they have positioned themselves to be (and have never been) is a body that represents, and advocates for, all "boaters". This would include obviously their current "performance sailing", but expand to encompass cruising, fishing(?), marina berth holders, and ....(????). They should also have a voice to represent us regarding the environment (I'm thinking antifouling), marine farms and ???? I'd be happy to contribute a bit of time. If we knocked somet

  2. I wonder how it would go over if offshore power boating NZ tried to charge launch owners a fee ? To train kids in mini powerboat racing and run their organisation ? imagine if yacht owners had to pay too !

  5. that Townson unfortunately has some problems which is reflected in its price. It is being advertised as built by Barry Jones, this is not strictly correct, Barry finished it off - the hull was built by others, all as described in Brian Peet's book about Des.

  7. My main beef with YNZ is where the fees we pay get spent. And Govt.grants depend on performance mean a whopping salary bill to pay mainly for elite sailing as I noted earlier. Putting up fees is easy but cutting costs is an anathema to most bureaucracies and this one is no different.

  8. If i could swallow my humility briefly and offer some advice from a long time sneakaboard. If you are going to do something outside the rules or shock horror outside the law, then do it quietly. Try to stay below officialdom s radar. Do whatever it is, don't disturb other people, don't make mess and don't make a lot of noise. And don't telegraph your intentions on a public forum. By doing this your chances of success increase and you lower the probability that said officialdom will make life difficult for your friends in future. Hope that helps Now

  9. As alternative fuel/electric vehicles increase on our roads, this is likely to become the best way of charging road tax. Although it is also a way to rip of small vehicle drivers unless the system becomes more complex. For instance, we used to have a 2 tonne and 3 tonne rate. Now we have one rate of 0 upto 3.5 tonne. So vehicles within that 3.5 tonne are all charged at the same rate of 0.072 cents per Km. Where as with the RUC held within the fuel tax, smaller Vehicles paid less because they tend to use less in the way of Fuel. It was a little more fair.

  10. I have done just this the last two years , refuse to pay YNZ fee through five yacht clubs and nominated one. This of course creates a great deal of hassle for the smaller clubs and I doubt that they have pursued it just pretended that I paid . However it is a point of principle and as I age more I note that the most fun regattas and events are organised outside YNZ !
