  1. Yup, instant fine the selfish f*ckwits. As Aleana says, this is not week one. People know the rules. They break them with intent. Same to the idiots at burger fuel. Personally I'm a fan of going all North Korea on their arses and shooting them, but my wife says I cant say that sort of thing in public. So i better not say that here either.

  2. Why? Wasting a while lot of time (and tax-payers money) wandering around giving people friendly warnings and second chances when they should be slamming them with a charge straight up. Yes, sure they are talking to everyone with respect but they are also treating adults like forgetful 5yr olds. That last case was a perfect example. Those guys were not only in the wrong but they LIED to the police with their initial answers but still got off with a ‘go home’ warning. WTF?! This isn’t day 2 of lockdown it’s month 2. The ‘warm & fuzzy’ approach should be long gone and the handc

  3. Yup. You can either obsess with the small details and pick holes in other folks efforts... or step back and see the bigger picture.

  4. Scottie, 2 things: 1. It's an opinion piece, not a scientific paper. 2. It is basically lifted from NZ Geo magazine, so there may well be references in the mag that didn't get shown on the interweb thingy. I think we will all have to confront many issues like this over the coming years. Hopefully we can do it with the same constructive attitude we, as Kiwis, are famous for. Rather than how yacht handicaps are discussed.

  5. One thing that bugs me i( among many) is the sediment coming down the river from development further upstream. Only a matter of time till our beaches are mud banks over run with mangroves.

  6. Putting aside your possibly correct criticism of this particular article, do you think the gulf and its ecosystems are in good health?

  7. Stopped fishing couple of seasons ago. Read a book or go swimming instead. I know people who basically fill their day fishing in one spot or another taking pride in a photo of a bucket load of fish t at the end of the day. Totally unnecessary. Admittedly I don’t know exact numbers of private vs commercial catch but why don’t they turn the mantra “just catch what you can eat” into law by limiting the catch to 1 fish per person per day - that’s an obvious way to match catch with appetite. Yes I know, that’s totally unthinkable to the fishing addicts and fishing lobby. But so was a 4 week lo

  8. The fishing industry has both bases covered, on the one side they have Winston in their pocket and on the other hand National president Peter Goodfellow's family is the major shareholder in Sanfords

  10. Yep, every NOR I can find in the events that interest me just say Section 5 which includes Sport Trailer Yachts. Thats probably how boats like Tack Hammer were able to race. I've no interest in doing Cat3 or 4+ longer races even with the ability to tow home. 23 Coastals in a cat and 3 in a Ross930 taught me what's fun and whats not

  11. "look up the science" eh? I would if the author had referened any of "it". Instead he's just plagerised "the science" with not even an acknowledgement of source. Forgive me for being sceptical of such a lack of professionalism. Being a magazine does not excuse this behaviour. Instead this behaviour just reinforces a lack of credibility. But hey that's just my opinion - if you like this kind of reading good for you. As for voicing my scepticism of Mike Hosking on line - ya got me! However I don't listen or read him unless asked to by a friend, becasue, well I'm sceptical of him too.

  17. I'm always sceptical of any opinion piece when the author begins with the premise "while science is clear". The piece is full of emotive and anecdotal comment and not a single independent reference, scientific or otherwise. but ya know - feeelzzzzz!
