  1. going to be starting the experimentation on building a rudder stock, rudder and centreboard for a Farr 3.7.  Will get foam for the centreboard and rudder to create a shape first then cover with carbon,  so question is what weight/type of carbon would you use?  and how many layers.

and the follow up question is what is the easiest/cheapest way to setup a vacumn bagging arrangement,  any tips as i have heard it is the way to go with making these

  2. my son is nearly done doing up an old Farr 3.7 and currently the sail he has is only just servicable, looking or a better option if any one has an old sail in the garage that is in better shape,  can be funded with either cash or rum

  3. Surplus to requirements, was retubed by Dolphin inflatables in 2019, not patches, but does lose air over a number of months, we used to pump it up once a season.  Towing bridle and dinghy wheels, seat and set of wooden oars. $1500

  4. if it is just the bearing then it is easily replaceable,  undo the clip at the back to get the cable detached, then unclip the unit and bring it to the deck.  undo the nut at the bottom and remove the bearing.  It is  most likely part number 213-10-038.

Be careful removing the cable as they are very hard to source if you break it.  But i have a brand new bearing still in the box which is surplus to requirements that i can sell to you for $100 (half what i paid for it and without the 3 week wait)

  5. my MDI lasted 5hrs,  after getting towed back in and some helpful advice from others with the same issue, i got Ovlov down to replace under warranty,  they told me they had never seen it before,  i let them know that google would disagree.

What has always intrigued me is that they replaced my battery cables as part of the install, apparently it is recommend by Volvo.  I was happy i had when it died as they did try to blame it on other things in the boat and i reminded them that they did the install an i agreed to all there recommendations.

I had the "safety button" on alligator clips so that there would be no evidence left behind if I needed an emergency start. i have no idea how they have got away with this for so many years, especially in the US

  6. went back to man o war for the first time in a few year,  1 choice of beer only,  $11 served in a can not even a glass,  i think is taking the piss! literally.  wont be emptying my wallet there in a hurry again,  used to be a regular fixture on the boating calendar

  7. the runners (backstays to the corners) will either terminate at the same height as the forestay,  in which case they add forestay tension which should equal height and speed upwind

of they terminate at the masthead in which case if you have a backstay as well then they are probably more about mast support when using masthead kites or gennakers

  8. have a TPU tubed inflatable that has developed a pin prick hole,  manufacturer of the tubes has no TPU repair kits until the new year,  so can i just buy an inflatable repair kit from burnsco?  they seem to all be for pvc boats?

  9. That is a pet peeve of mine, number of times I have been looking for something urgently and find it showing in stock on a website, only to ring and find it is in stock in Australia and would be shipped from there. In stock should mean I can drive to the shop and pick it up same day!

  10. so it is more like you must get a WOF but the closet garage to AK will be in Hamilton.

Westpark, Baywater, Pine harbour all owned by the same guy who must be rubbing his hands together now with the thought of the revenue coming his way.

Having recently sold the boat and for the first time in 30 years not owing a boat that requires a marina or haulout I think i timed that about right,  now to find a boat to race on where someone else pays all the bills....

I'm required to maintain my car with a Warrant of Fitness to ensure its "safe" and "roadworthy".  I could do it myself if the council provided suitable workshop facilities, but there is literally nowhere for me to do this!

    Its appalling.

I'll probably have to sell the car.

not quite the same, they expect you to get a WOF, but then make so that there is only allowed to be 1 garage per 500km of road,  bad luck if you live in AK and all WoFs will now be done in Tauranga. That would be a more reasonable comparison on the basis that from Westhaven it would be 2hrs to the closest haulout yard other than floating dock soon?

Given Pine Harbour have reduced there hardstand space (and increased the prices accordingly)in recent years and there seems to be a lot less space at HMB now with the extensions where are people planning on doing the maintenance?  yes you can go to one of the smaller yards mainly run by yacht clubs but of these are volunteer run and dont necessarily want more business, Late last year i tried to used Panmure rather than Pine harbour as pine harbor had a month waiting list,  After filing in the paperwork for Panmure i was told i would get a call in 3-6months when a spot was available.  Cant see that getting any better with these recent closures

  12. i have used durapox clear coat,  two pot and gives a great finish,  havent yet had to take if off though.  Can also be used as a clear coat on any other painting you are doing including carbon so seems pretty versatile

  13. sold the boat so now surplus to requirement,  $100 with stainless bolts to attach to the marina finger.  would have to pick up from either beachlands or highland park could be arranged during work hours

  14. I have two brand new 5m extension cables,  these are Volvo parts and plug directly into the OEM plugs to extend the harness if your control panel is too far from the control box.  $50 each if they are of interest PM me

  15. I taught my kids from early on,  if you can hit it with a bottle then it is too close.  so i create the bottles and they prepare them for use,  i have found that green bottles have the best range so i tend to stick with them

  16. anyone not using there berth this Saturday night,  taking the boat up town,  and probably dont need it but would like to have the option to park there from about 6pm to 9pm if i need to.  Westhaven apparently not doing rentals at the moment due to a renovation project.  happy to pay the going rate for a nightly rental,  need minimum 12m

  17. I spoke to someone involved with putting it out,  no definite answer until the fire guys finish there investigation etc. etc but the current thought is that it was the batteries, fire started not long after the mechanics turned on the batteries to test the engines after some work was done,  I also heard that the insurance company will pay out the classic but also give the boat back so it can be rebuilt,  If that rumour is true then good on the insurance company as better to let the owners work on options to have it restored than to write it off and have it go to landfill,  sounds like a boat with a bit of history.  Both boats sitting on the hard at Pine Harbour now

  18. yes ended up having drinks on the beach with them,  he did say he had done sailing as a kid, but we wont hold launching against them, seems much more practical with small kids,  I have even been tempted
