  1. Thank you K4309 for the referral and link to Mooringbnb. I followed through the link and also had an email conversation with Peter of mooringbnb. Peter was very helpful. We have used mooringbnb to locate and book a mooring in the general area we are interested in. All good so far. afu
  2. Trying to find a mooring we can rent for two days in Schoolhouse Bay location of Bon Accord Harbour. Dates are 16 and 17 February. Boat is 10M long. Have tried the harbourmasters office. They were unable to help. Does any forum members know anyone who may have a mooring available to rent for those dates. Please PM me with contacts if you have any information. regards afu.
  3. Summer 2017. Evening shot as we sailed out the Rangi channel on our way to Kawau. It was a memorable night race.

  5. Raced a Hobie16 for many years called it "Cooking Fat" Another H16 in same part of world called "Happy Ending" Not to overlook the Formula 18 called "BarFinder" a.f.u
  6. Try Dwayne at Yachtspars. Looks like the type of track and slide bearing they use. PM me if you need a phone no. We had issues with our Harken mast track system last night. It was pretty vigorous - almost too windy for Tigga. a.f.u
  7. Clicked on the link and looked at all the photos from those years. Lots of nostalgia there. I did my Cherub sailing in Nelson in the mid 60's and sailed Pandora (ex Neil Pryde) and June (a Wagstaff design).Sadly do not have any photos. The popular design back then was the Spenser MKVII. I wonder if anyone has photos of these boats in action.
  8. Mast Dimensions are MAXIMUM LENGTH: 14.9M PROFILE: 148mm x 100mm TAPER: starts at 2M from top. Tapers to 85 X 85 Price: $6000 Contact Stuart on 0274 901 884
  9. We do it the same way with our zero on Tigga. Seems to furl OK. This is a good tip too. We will add it to our zero furling process. a f u
  10. I have unbolted some fittings on my boat. Inside the deck they were fastened through a Stainles Steel backing plate. The backing plate appears to be sitting on a thin layer of a rubbery like compound something like Sikaflex. Is there a method or chemical to clean this stuff off the fibreglass? Or do I have to do it the tedious way and carefully scrape it off with a sharp chisel or similar. a.f.u
  11. Peter Mander and Jack Cropp. My boyhood yachting heroes.
  12. Talk to Solas Propellors in Christchurch. http://www.propellers.co.nz Ph:0800 776 774 They have a wide selection of props to fit most applications. I get the 4 blade high thrust for my 9.8 Tohatsu from them and it works well. a.f.u
  13. Good explanation Knot Me. I am thinking of replacing some of my stanchion wires with Dyneema or similar. What would you suggest? a.f.u.
  14. My boat is fitted with Lewmar clutches that on the whole do a good job. One of my crew members remarked that the clutches holding the vang lines were hard to lift the lever and release when the rope was under load. Do any forum members have any suggestions for rope clutches that are easy to release when under load? a.f.u
  15. My boat is rigged with 1/4"" 1x19 Stainless rigging wire. The rig is now 8 years old. The boat is raced regularly on Auckland Harbour. Can any forum members advise me on on the expected life of this sort of rigging wire? a.f.u
  16. Yep Knot Me, Chains Rope and Anchors. afu
  17. Attached article is in the Westhaven newsletter and easily accessible on the Westhaven Marina website. Not sure if it simplifies things or not. My boat is very simple electrically and I am feeling somewhat exploited by these new rules if I must do all this so I can plug the battery charger in. a.f.u Electrical Regs.pdf
  18. Looking closely at my boat the other day the topsides need a polish. By topsides i mean from the waterline to the gunwale. Usually I do jobs like this myself but at the moment my time is fully taken up. Boat is in Westhaven. Do any forum members know anyone they could suggest to do this job? a.f.u
  19. I bought one from Harken/Fosters approx 1 year ago. Cost was $356.00 (inc GST). They had to bring it in from the USA for me. But it was the tool I needed to do some serious tweaking on my boat. Couple of things the supplier will need to know if you head off and buy one:- - Type of rigging, Rod or laid wire. The gauge is different depending on which type . - Diameter of rigging wire. Loos gauges are made to fit various sizes and you need to get one that fits your wire. a.f.u
  20. I use a wet @ dry vacuum cleaner to get water out of all those hard to reach corners you get on most yachts. Looking at your pic i think you could easily get a slim nozzle down there to pick up the water/oil mix. a.f.u

    Shoes

Bata Bullets. Cheap, grippy, white soles. Can make draining by a little careful surgery with a sharp knife. a.f.u
  22. and gybes !. We tore our dodgy -on its last legs- fractional during a very averagely executed gybe last night. Looking to buy another that will work as fractional on my boat. Does anyone out there have a 1020 (or MRX) kite that is surplus to needs? a.f.u
  23. Set Up the heads up instruments on the mast. Now we really are all fired up.
  24. Interesting that something like this that appears to be simple can be sooo complicated and any solution available has lots of $$$ attached to it. The Digital Yacht Navlink wireless MNEA2000 server looks as though it will do the job, but by the time it gets from the USA to NZ it is very costly. ( $700++). So i will keep on researching the question. a.f.u
