at the moment they are saying no links to any known cases
which is presumably the reason for the auckland's jump from level 1 straight to 3
because if they've found a completely new cluster that's been quietly building in south auckland for 5 months....
but it would be nice if they have us a little more of the technical information, like the dna variation strains etc
rather than the primary school level of mother-knows-best and you need to know nothing!

I think it's a great idea and if it was around when I started I'd have gone in balls deep fast.
Why do so many struggle to get off the ground? Lack of capital. Why do most business fail in the first 5 or so years, including mine as I was bloody close more than once? A lack of capital.
As I had no capital when I started I had to grow using cashflow to a point where now it pays well for the least amount of effort, staff numbers, innovation and more including tax paid. Basically a lack of capital is why so many NZ business owners are happy with having a BBB business, one that pays enough for a bach, boat and BMW or in my case boats, bikes and buggerising around.
Business is what's going to get NZ out of this massive debt hole it's diving head first into at the moment. Many business's are falling over, a lot are struggling but some are doing OK, The thing is we need them all doing good to pay all the taxes, inc the new ones we know have to come, in an effort not to dump these mega billions of debt onto our kids and future generation.

That post from Ian needs to be in it's own thread.
It is a HUGELY topical subject being discussed inside many, if not most, yacht clubs and I'm sure it will generate a lot of discussion.......and sphincter twitching in the odd Takapuna office.

One big advantage not mentioned of a Y88 or 1020 verses a 930 is a typically a diesel motor and associated reliability, charging capacity/potential and economy. I know a few 930's have diesels but they are rare. As with any boat purchase you would want to check or have checked the mechanical health of a diesel carefully or be prepared to spend $$$.  I know a recent 1020 purchase as presented the new owner with some expensive motor issues.

One other point going back to the original post - the whiting 29 that's come up in your racetrack search is a slow one. If you change your search to full history you'll see them all and that loads rate more like 0.67. Still not 88 or 930 territory, but a decent margin faster than your d28.
If I were in your situation I'd say that the answer to your fundamental question is that yes you're better to upgrade to a different boat than throw heaps of money at the d28. Contrary to what's been said above a y88 shouldn't cost double what scarlet does, and fleet street sold recently after being advertised in the high 20s. Also worth looking at farr 9.2s, lidguard 29s as well.

C'mon KM you know apart from the C/B case the rest is foam and a very thin layer of glass plus tabbing and fillets ..I'd argue it weighs bugger all. Besides why have we never seen a photo of the interior of the elusive reptile? Crump might want to see what a modern interior interpretation of a 930 like think looks like. Pics or it never happened!

I think the main question you need to ask yourself is what’s more important, cruising or racing. 1020 or  S34 best of both, 930 more race/sportboat style, 88 good for both but a bit dearer.

I had wondered what happened to him. Not the best choice of places to try and Winter over in.
I wouldn't believe a word of what he said in that article. It's pretty obvious by now that the guy has a serious mental issue and frankly, he needs help in that respect. It is possible he has been offered a Home and he has refused it. Interestingly, most of the Homeless had been removed off the streets and given Housing during the Covid lockdown. But many  of them have now moved back out to the streets again. They prefer to be on the streets because there are too many "rules" when they are in a Home. Like keeping it clean for instance. Paying bills, signing forms etc etc. It is all too much for them.
I don't say that in a mocking way. It's because of their Mental issues. There are many reasons why. Such as a feeling of restrictions and control being placed on them. The streets mean freedom from those restrictions. Another is that it all seems to hard. Too much paper work to deal with. To many things that need to be done to simply live.  I think that is what Shane found. It wasn't really a love of sailing, because he did none. It was the idea of living out there with no one telling him he had to do anything. But in reality, even out on the water did not isolate him fully from rules/regulations.
He really does need help. Like so many Homeless. We can't just find homes for them and then think the problem is solved. There needs to be managed shelters for them. But that opens up a whole other set of problems.

No way should the government be dropping any money into any Council.
Until Councils' demonstrate a willingness to maintain levels of planned investment, capital infrastructure expenduture and its continued delivery, service level and planning along with an appropriate right sizing in terms of staffing then IMHO they are now part of the problem.
Any slow down in terms of their already budgeted expenditure has signiificant and long lasting negative effects on the wider economy and recovery.

There isn't a lack of cash...there is the illusion of a lack of cash.  Already budgeted works are not being commenced through fear and in action by key council staff. Councils are stopping the flow of work into their communities citing no funds yet the staff headcount remains the same...there is no consequence from covid 19 for any council employee and therefore no drivers or incentives for them to act to complete any procurement process.  There is simply no drivers for them to do anything...head in the sand. You might think i'm cynical but I'm yet to find any other valid reason for their behaviour and the consequent increased instability, non performance and grotesque wastage in council delivery.
In short...service level decreasing...staff number, wage bill static or growing...delivery stopped or declining...your rates increasing at a rate well beyond inflation...in no way should the government be giving them any more money than was normal central government funding pre covid 19.  The money they have needs to be spent at the planned LTP rate not simply oh no covid 19 is the reason the Councils' budget is impacted....it is simply bullshit.

It is highly debatable but is per head of population indebtedness an important metric... haven't we moved from something like $3000 per person to greater than  $28,000 per person in less than four months...This has to be paid for. Question is how?

If this shenanigans happened in the private sector and it was deemed a breach of Health and Safety regulations (which it is IMO) the company directors would be PERSONALLY liable and accountable - yes the family home and assets are on the line
Perhaps the bureaucrats in charge of this debarcle need a bit more personal accountability to match? If they want commercial grade salaries then take on commercial grade risk.

There was a known issue with the DST’s doing this - losing the bottom and picking up the bulb. I know B&G put out a software fix for transducers newer than a certain serial number. My own one was older, but has the issue, which they told me it shouldn’t as they thought the issue only effected newer ones, they said they were looking into it.
    Annoying.

This is honest feedback you are getting here Rehab, please take the time to give it some consideration, rather than dismissing it out of hand.
Go and have a look at the topic listings and thread listings and have a count up of the number of threads where you have made the last post. You will see it is entirely out of proportion to any other user. I'm putting it to you that that is because no one can be bothered interacting with you, due to the frequency and quality (or lack of) of your posts. There is a high number of people that have you on ignore, that is not normal. Please go and have a look at what I am talking about, and give it some thought. Ask yourself why that might be? And perhaps what you could do to change that?

    aah Computer says no...
"You need to give evidence of new boat pushing against the tide in Whitianga harbour channel. Any engine that can do that is fit for purpose.
I would suggest a large portion of boats would not pass the test."  Chariot
Strange the above is simply another subjective measure that can't complied with either, while it may practically demonstrate the appropriateness of the available thrust of the engine in a particular craft ( entering or leaving Bluff harbour is another good example...sometimes no amount of horsepower is enough).
Although this has been discussed elsewhere my boat has a 9.8hp outboard with HT prop in a custom well and is a registered YNZ keelboat. It meets all the YNZ requirements for speed in flatwater as per the formula but is quite poor when you might really need it  i.e a close lee shore in 40 knots as most boats will be.  Question is why was the boat on a lee shore in forty knots - poor seamanship right? was the right jib still hanked on ready to rumble for 40 knts when the mooring broke at three a.m  or the anchor dragged?
The TY rule is very prescriptive here and the formula will spit out a result that says DP needs 6.2 not 6hp. Question is where is that horsepower measured at the flywheel or at the shaft? Can this be calculated if available and is it more or less than the 'rated/advertised' hp. Can you 'hot up' the outboard to meet the rule etc and produce a cert? I know PITA. Not easy.
Especially, at this time the sport whether it be TY or sports trailer yacht or sportboat or keelboat needs to be administered to do everything possible to grow participation. Not discourage it. It is analogous to society at present where everyone/ every institution seems to be finding a reason why you can't or shouldn't do something rather than to help/ or assist participants to achieve it. In fact in many instances the 'computer says no'  is the dominant paradigm. When as a society did we move to this fear based, over-regulated, computer says no state where we are collectively inhibited, prevented from pursuing what we want to do. What happened to individual responsibility? How as a population/nation have we allowed it to occur?
Wouldn't it be odd standing up in a coroner's hearing outlining that the .2hp was a key contributing factor? Moreover who would argue that the .2hp was significant? Think about it. hydrodynamic and aero drag in most instances would render the additional .2hp utterly useless.
DP curious , who are you dealing with at NZTYA?
